Once a month I will add one eBook self-published Sci Fi or Science author to my Deil Chosen list. The author will be chosen on the basis of well written speculative fiction based on reasonable extrapolations of science and technology. |

"In Her Name - Empire" by Michael R. Hicks This is the first of a three volume epic on the fringe of hard science fiction using elements of sword and dragon fantasy and a number of other very familiar sources. I included it because it is very well written. You will be quickly swept up in the epic since Michael's prose makes you believe that a culture like the Kreelans could exist. He magically creates empathy for a tall blue people with fangs and razor sharp talons that want to wipe out the human race. You will see how one human captive, Resa Gard, through intense training and hardships bridges the enormous gap between the cultures and learns their "Way" beyond expectations. |

"Diaspora" by Greg Egan Diaspora is a Hard science fiction vision of the future in the thirtieth century. Most of humanity has decided to upload into a virtual scape of one polis or another or to become androids in the physical world. The virtual world also creates it own offspring as well through a very believable process using a virtual gene-like process to create new entities. Some will view this world as a dark future. Dark of not, I believe it is very close to being a close estimate of our eventual destiny. The only difference I have with the book is the time scale. I think it will happen far sooner. This book will be referenced in the future as visionary. |
